Last spring, following the thread Ikat fabrics are made of, I found my self on the Silk Road, in Uzbekistan.
Approaching the old city of Bukhara by car, I stopped at the crossroad that made me feel that I was in the center of the world. At the end of the road ahead of me was China and Korea, behind me was Iran, the Middle East, the Mediterranean Sea, Europe. Should I turn left I could end up in Moscow and should I chose to turn right I could go all the way to the tip of India. It was right there that I saw that the word "cross" was more than the symbol of a faith. It is the powerful symbol of intersection, of meeting of the known with the unknown, the beginning of a sea of possibilities.
For the love of fabric I started opening doors, I met new people, entered the wold of Central Asia. Right there, in old Bukhara I found my way to making my own Silk Road Scarves.
I have printed on luxurious silk three dozens of scarves, based on my paintings.
My paintings can now be wrapped around the neck like a sweet caress and add color dressing up a simple outfit.
They measure approximately 32"x32" and come in three cool color schemes: Blue, Yellow and Red. Available through Studio Escargot. Contact nexarhu@yahoo.com
